Peavy Wins, Dawgs Tie Cudas For BEML Lead

September 26, 2008

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ–The Craydawgs‘ Jake Peavy made his final start of the season last night, and while he didn’t pitch that well (5 IP, 8 H+BB, 3 ER, 3 Ks), he won and enabled the Dawgs to pick up a 1/2 point over the Dirty Dogs in the Wins category. Meanwhile, the Cudas lost a point in Batting Average to The Pack Is Back by hitting 7-for-42 (.167) on the day. The Dawgs and Cudas are now tied at 70 points each, with three days to go.

Vlad Guerrero cranked deuce dongs (27) for the Dawgs yesterday, including one off Cudas closer J.J. Putz, and Ryan Braun added a grand slam (36).

The Dawgs will send Dan Haren to the mound tonight, while the Cudas counter with Derek Lowe.

C.C. Pitches Cudas Into Lead

September 25, 2008

FARMINGDALE, NY–Making his third start in just nine days, Cudas ace CC Sabathia struck out 11 last night to pass the Dawgs in that category and generate a two-point swing in the standings: Cudas 71, Dawgs 69.5. Cudas manager Mike Markoski claims he will pitch Sabathia again on three days’ rest if necessary. “F*ck his arm. I don’t care if it falls off,” said Markoski of the soon-to-be free agent. “It’s all about this year.”

Meanwhile, the Dawgs hit .373 on the day (19-for-51) and scored 11 runs to edge closer to gains in the BA and Runs categories. Moreover, Bears pitcher Fausto Carmona got racked, raising the Bears’ ERA to 3.75, while the Craydawgs stand at 3.76 in that category–more potential for gain.

The Dawgs will send Jake Peavy to the mound tonight to try to recapture the Ks lead, but are forced to sit Kevin Slowey to try to come under the 1500 innings limit.

Dawgs Cling to 1/2 Point Lead Over Cudas

September 23, 2008

The Craydawgs are hanging on to just a 0.5 point lead (70.5 to 70) over the Barracudas after the SeaWolves notched three wins last night to tie the Dawgs in that category.

The Dawgs hit .294 (10-for-34) with homers from Vlad Guerrero (25), Derrek Lee (20) and Hank Blalock (4). Blalock acquitted himself well in replacing a habitually dinged-up Chipper Jones, going 3-for-5 on the night.

The Cudas hit just .185 (5-for-27) with one RBI. Grady Sizemore posted an 0-for-5. The Cudas are in danger of losing a point in Batting Average to The Pack Is Back (-.0003), which hit .286 on the day. J.J. Putz picked up two Ks to put the Cudas within two of the Craydawgs for the lead in that category (1297 to 1295).

The Dawgs send Randy Johnson, James Shields, and Johan Santana to the mound today, and the Cudas counter with Zack Greinke and Cole Hamels.

In a blow to the Dawgs, Jake Peavy will make just one more start this season due to the time he missed to be with his wife and newborn. He had been scheduled for two starts. Dawgs ownership likely will have some choice words for Peavy about his level of commitment to the Dawgs. Also, the BEML suspended Dawgs catcher V-Mart for three games for tussling with erstwhile Craydawg and current AMHer Gary Sheffield last week. Chris Snyder will take Martinez’ place in the lineup for now. This development does not help the Dawgs’ chances to catch the Dirty Dogs in Batting Average.

Home Stretch . . .

September 22, 2008

With one week to go, the Craydawgs lead the Barracudas by one point, 71-70. The Dawgs will look to not cave in like the 2007 Dawgs famously did, and the Cudas will look to finish strong and reclaim the lead they held for much of the season. The Dawgs can conceivably pick up a point in BA (.0003 behind), HRs (-6), Runs (-8), ERA (-0.04), Saves (-2), Wins (-2), and WHIP (-0.01). The Cudas can pick up points in ERA (-0.04), Ks (-4), and Saves (-3). Oh, it’s on: Cudas v. Dawgs.

Jets v. Bolts, Cudas v. Dawgs. It’s all on. Hoc Faciamus (“Let’s Do This”).

Cudas Post a 4-for-52 (.077), Fall Four Points Back

September 17, 2008

FARMINGDALE, NY–The Barracudas went just 4-for-52 yesterday (.077) and dropped a point in the batting average category. The Craydawgs took advantage, hitting .356 and picking up two points in average by passing the Bears and Darkness. The Dawgs now hold a tenuous four-point lead with 12 days left in the BEML season. Dan Haren bounced back from two prior four-inning starts with a complete-game shutout and 12 Ks for his 15th win. The Dawgs are now hoping looking to pick up a point in ERA on the Bears (3.70 to 3.69).

Victor Martinez had his first homer of the season for the Dawgs, and Carlos Pena hit his 29th homer off of the Cudas’ Josh Beckett.

The Dirty Dogs continue to mash (20-for-54, .370), but Francisco Liriano got lit up (13.50 ERA in 2.7 IP) and held them back. They are 11 points back in 3rd place.

Tensions Rise; Dawgs & Dogs Get Into It

September 9, 2008

HIGHLAND PARK, NJ — With three weeks left in the 2008 BEML season, tensions are mounting among the contenders. The second place Craydawgs took on the Dirty Dogs last night, and tempers flared when Dogs catcher Ivan Rodriguez elbowed Dawgs slugger Torii Hunter as Hunter scrapped to score a run. Hunter retaliated by pushing I-Rod and the benches cleared for a full-fledged Dawg/Dogfight. Both Hunter and I-Rod face BEML suspensions.

“Every run counts,” explained Hunter of the collision with Rodriguez that sparked the brawl.

After Rodriguez was ejected, the Craydawgs ran wild on his backup A.J. Pierzynski, racking up a BEML season-high nine stolen bases on the night.

The Dawgs are four points behind the BEML-leading Barracudas (71 to 67) heading into today’s games; the Dirty Dogs, 9.5 points back (61.5).

Cudas In Lead; Lowe Outhurls Dawgs’ Haren

September 6, 2008

FARMINGDALE, NY–The Barracudas’ Derek Lowe pitched the Barracudas past Dan Haren and the Craydawgs last night in a matchup of the BEML’s 1st and 2nd place squads. Lowe worked eight scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and two walks. Haren struggled, allowing five runs in four innings. The Cudas now lead the Dawgs by 3.5 points (71 to 67.5) heading into the season’s final month, with the Dirty Dogs fading (10 points back).

Lowe rocks the Cudas pink and teal with pride.
