The Dawgs‘ lead has ranged from 8 to 12.5 in the past couple of weeks but has rested at 10 even for the past few days, 85 to 75 over Weiss’ Bears. The Dawgs now lead in all five offensive categories and the Wins category as well.
The Dawgs will have to try to maintain their lead despite season-ending injuries to slugger Carlos Pena (39 HRs, 100 RBI), ace Johan Santana, erstwhile Wins leader Kevin Slowey, and now catcher Chris Snyder, who had been filling in for Bengie Molina (traded at the deadline to The Pack Is Back).
The Bears have been hampered by a couple of disastrous free-agent acquisitions by name of Jarrod Washburn and Zach Duke. Washburn has generated just one win and has been ravaged by a 6.81 ERA in 37 innings, and Duke has posted a 4.56 ERA with an abominable 1.52 WHIP in 56 innings. The Bears’ young gun Joba Chamberlain has also struggled over his past six outings, with a 7.96 ERA, a 2.08 WHIP, and one win.
BEMLBlog is discussing Zach Duke…
Not Uncle Jesse Duke.
