Week 4 Report: Maroners Stand Tall, Bears Fall

April 30, 2012

CHERRY HILL — In Week 4, the Ancient Maroners sailed into fourth by picking up 11 points.

The Seafarers led the league in HR (15), Runs (49), RBI (49), Wins (5) and ERA (1.60). Jay Bruce hit .476/4/10/2 and Tim Lincecum appears to have turned a corner (two wins, 1 ER in 13 IP).

The Ancient Maroners cast a spell in Week 4.

On the flip side, the Grizz fell eight points into last place by trailing the league in Saves (0), Ks (40), ERA (4.93) and WHIP (1.52). Yovani Gallardo got smoked (2 IP, 8 ER).

The tranquilized Bears mascot takes a dip at the new Bear Cave in North Woodmere.

In other BEML news… the league’s most expensive player, Arsenal’s Albert Pujols, has a putrid .216/0/4/0 line… Snowmen have lost Ryan Zimmerman (.224/1/7/1) to injury; he joins ace Cliff Lee on the bench… the Filthies led the league in Ks (71) as Josh Johnson had 17 in just 12 IP; the Dogs gained eight points this week… the Cudas’ CarGo picked up the pace in Week 4, hitting .391/4/11/2 (.288/4/16/4 overall)… the Kents’ Derek Holland struggled this week, with 12 ER in 13 IP (8.31 ERA); the GKs dropped 5.5 points… the Craydawgs’ Jordan Zimmermann has a 1.33 ERA in his first four starts, but just one win to show for it.

News and Notes

April 27, 2012

Arsenal picked up 13.5 points to move into third in Week 3, leading the league in RBI (57), Runs (50), Steals (13) and Wins (5). Josh Hamilton (.418/7/17/1) led the team with a .462 BA, three HRs and 11 BI… the George Kents plummeted from second to fifth by dropping 10 points, but everyone on the Kents’ active roster is hitting .250 or above, led by David Wright (.439/2/8/0 through three weeks)… the Barracudas have dropped 13.5 points since Week 2 and shook up their lineup today, benching Paul Goldschmidt (.196) and Peter Bourjos (.178) for Jose Altuve and David Freese… Snowmen have been in command lately, rising to first place heading into today’s action; they hit .302 last week with a 2.29 ERA. Nick Swisher has been a force (.283/4/20 through the first three weeks)… the Bears picked up 8.5 points as Freddie Freeman hit .478/3/14… the Dirty Dogs hit only .229 in Week 3, with disappointing starts from Kevin Youkilis (.190) and Matt Holliday (.183), among others… the Craydawgs’ Cory Luebke had a 0.60 ERA over 15 innings in Week 3… the Maroners’ ace Tim Lincecum continues to get abused by BEML hitters (10.54 ERA).

Welcome to Arsenal Throwback Weekend.

Frozen Fish

CENTRAL ISLIP–The Snowmen took over first place yesterday as Cliff Lee hurled 10 innings of shutout ball. Unfortunately, their hottest hitter Chris Young (.410/5/13/2) hit the DL at the same time.

Meanwhile, Arsenal–already smarting from the loss of Jacoby Ellsbury–lost speedster Brett Gardner to an elbow injury. The Vegas line on Arsenal’s chances took a hit and are now at 6-1.

Week 2 Report: Fishing for a Repeat

April 16, 2012

BEML XX is now in full swing and it’s those Vicious Fish that are still getting it done.

The Fish dropped 5.5 points in Week 2 despite leading the league again in Hitting and Pitching. Matt Kemp is just beastly, hitting .487/6/16/1.

The Kents are in the early swing of things, picking up 18 points in Week 2 by leading the BEML in Wins (6), Runs (58), ERA (2.73) and Strikeouts (54). Yadier Molina (.353/3/10/1) has proven to be a savvy keeper at catcher thus far, while Shaun Marcum looks good for the league minimum salary (3.46 ERA, 0.77 WHIP over two starts).

BEMLBlog speaks of Kents catcher Yadier Molina…

… not British thespian Alfred Molina.

Snowmen have been leaning on Chris Young and he has delivered (.364/4/11/2). Zack Greinke did not deliver, however, coughing up eight ER over 3.7 IP in Week 2, and the Freeze carries a 5.11 ERA into Week 3. The Frosty Ones picked up 9.5 points and are in a familiar zone (third place).

In other BEML news, the Dawgs’ sluggers are sluggish so far, with Teixeira and Cano going homerless… the Ancient Maroners dropped six points and are dealing with a slow start from Tim Lincecum (12.91 ERA over two starts)… Arsenal have lost Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) for a few weeks, which should hurt them a bit… Speaking of pain, the Dirty Dogs lost closer Brian Wilson at the end of a week that saw them drop 28 points… the Bears pulled up the rear in HR (6) and RBI (24) and are dealing with slow starts from several players including Mark Reynolds (.160) and Aramis Ramirez (.114).

If the Maroners continue to falter, comedian Marc Maron may work his cousins’ team into his routine.

Fish Swim Fast Out Of The Gate

FARMINGDALE–The defending BEML champion Barracudas have jumped out to a big lead in BEML XX in the early going. Nick Markakis has been hot, hitting 5-for-7 in the first two games with two homers and four RBI. MVP Matt Kemp has been the gift that keeps giving (via trade with Project Mayhem last year), hitting .462 with 6 RBI in three games. Roy Halladay continues to be unparalleled, with eight scoreless innings and five Ks for a win in his first start. The team overall has hit .348 with 1.88 ERA. Visitors to the Fish Tank are once again warned not to pester mascot Barry Cuda┬«. He has a temper.
