Did you know?… This makes two years in a row for Braun, CarGo, Verlander, Hamels and Hanrahan… This is the third year running for Robinson Cano and Miguel Cabrera… This is David Wright’s fourth All-Star appearance in six years (’07, ’09, ’10, ’12) and Cole Hamels’ third appearance in five years (’08, ’11, ’12).

Miggy and Cano brag to each other about their third BEML All-Star appearance in a row.

Mid-Season Report: Craydawgs Get A Taste

July 3, 2012

HIGHLAND PARK–For those BEMLBlog readers who thought they wouldn’t see a new blog entry until the Craydawgs were in first place… looks like maybe they were right. Despite the worst pitching in the BEML, the Dawgs are improbably in first at the halfway point, supported by an offensive surge in Week 13. The Dawgs went off like a hit geyser, leading the BEML in BA (.338), RBI (59) and Steals (13).

The Dawgs were led by Robinson Cano (.414/4/10 in Week 13, .310/20/46 on the year) and the surprising Alex Rios, who hit .467/2/6/3 on the week and is hitting .349/9/27/9 in just 146 ABs for the Mutts. Of course, as we’ve seen thus far in BEML XX, it’s anyone’s year; the Dawgs could easily find themselves in 7th place next week as the top seven teams are separated by a mere 5.5 points.

Dawgs fan Robert Cray is slated to rock the Dawg Pound on the Fourth of July.

The Cudas’ offense sputtered this week and the Fish dropped three points into second place. The scaly ones hit just .238 as several regulars were sub-.200, including Moustakas, Cozart, A-Rod, Weeks, Napoli and Viciedo. The rest of the BEML has to take advantage while superstars Matt Kemp and Roy Halladay remain on the shelf.

The Snowmen have quietly hung around the top and once again find themselves sniffing the BEML gold. Possible BEML Rookie of the Year Mike Trout has added a spark at the top of the Freeze’s lineup, hitting .383/4/8/5 in just 60 ABs. Rumor has it the Fish are anxious to land Trout via trade.

The Snowmen can just sniff the BEML gold.

Arsenal’s Josh Hamilton continues to batter BEML pitching (.314/25/73/6) but Adrian Gonzalez is proving to be a disappointment thus far (.272/6/43/0); Ernesto Frieri has not allowed a run in 10 innings since joining Arsenal as a free agent last month… the Ancient Maroners’ ERA is “unconscionable” per Maroners ownership; after a 1.29 ERA in Week 13 they are at 2.60 for the year, on pace to obliterate the BEML record; R.A. Dickey is after the Maddux Award, with a ridiculous 1.31 ERA/0.75 ERA through 83 IP… the pitching-heavy Dirty Dogs are searching for speed by trade… the Dogs’ Mike Morse may finally be back after his early season injuries (.484/2/6 in Week 13)… the George Kents hit a promising .305/17/54 with a league-leading 62 runs in Week 13… the Kents’ Mat Latos hurled two complete games with 20 Ks this week… the Bears are arguably out of the running and would be well positioned to take advantage through strategic dealing if they were playing for next year; however, after a recently foiled players-for-cash deal with Arsenal (the only vetoed trade in BEML history), the Grizz have threatened to go into permanent hibernation…

The vetoed trade between the Bears and Arsenal involved the transfer of actual cash, not Dave Cash.
